Accounting Minutes

On October 1, 2007 I received this letter in my mailbox.

September 25, 2007

Dear Ms. Moriah:

The following is an accounting of the times that you have arrived late to work since August 30, 2007:

September 25, 2007 1 Minute Late
September 27, 2007 3 Minutes Late

Total 4 Minutes

As you know the school day begins at 8:00 a.m. It is imperative that you report to work on time each day so that students can have the availability of your services. Also, your lateness place as a burden on your colleagues.

When your lateness totals 3 hours and 20 minutes the EIS system will automatically deduct 1 full day from your CAR.

If this pattern continues, a letter will be placed in your file and further disciplinary action may be taken.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely,

Principal P.

Moriah's Comment: This letter does not deserve a comment. I'm just posting it so that everyone can see what I have to put up with.

This is happening all over the city. They are suppose to give you a 5 minute "grace period" I AM NEVER LATE OR ABSENT IF I CAN HELP IT. Remember give them nothing.

If you had god reason to have been "late" I would respond. Never have them have the last word!

Thanks for your suggestions. This is my strategy. I have been punching in since last year when the principal claimed that I came in late and didn't turn my card.

I am very seldom even one minute late. This is not a pattern with me--and I can prove it with my time cards.

If this is happening all over the city, then they are obviously acting in unison. When are WE going to start acting in unison as well?

No one is perfect--not even me. It is impossible to "give them nothing". They will find something one way or another. We need a better strategy than just replying to their nasty letters.

Are they sending these letters to others that are late? They cannot legally only pick on you and ignore others.

This letter deserves a reply being issued to the principal. Here is a possibility:

Please be advised that I wish to write you a full response to the above-quoted letter. However, to do so, I will need to inspect all critical letters and written reprimands that you issued to staff between the dates of Date 1 and Date 2.

Therefore, I'm requesting an appointment with you to be scheduled at some point within the next two weeks so that I may review such correspondence. I would also like to obtain copies of any that prove to be of interest. The Chapter Leader will accompany me to the meeting.

My colleagues and I are exceedingly thankful to work for a "humanitarian" principal such as yourself who unfailingly admonishes us for our transgressions, no matter how slight.

Your adherence to the well-established labor relations principle of "progressive discipline" is indeed commendable!

I look forward to our upcoming meeting.

Sincerely,

Ms. Moriah
